Cluttered homes, cluttered minds

I am an Oprah fan. I've watched Oprah since she was on TV in Baltimore, probably 25 years ago.  Anyone who says they don't like Oprah, is talking out of ignorance. There is no reason NOT to like her.  She is a good woman, living an amazing life.

Today, I had to leave the office early because I wanted to get home by 4pm so that I could watch Oprah.  Today's show was "Does my clutter make my butt look fat?" .  It was about the how the clutter and disorganization in your home is a symptom of the clutter and disorganization in your life.  The clutter is filling some unrelated need, just like the excess food that is making us fat fills a need unrelated to hunger.

My house is not TOO cluttered, but that is because I haul all of my clutter down to the warehouse.  I don't have a house full of junk, I have a 35,000 sq ft building full of junk!  No wonder I'm fat!

My home is not too cluttered, but neither is it organized, or clean, or inviting, or comfortable.  My kitchen needed repairs when we moved in, but instead of repairing, we have lived with the problems as is.  Most of the drawers are broken and nailed shut, the linoleum on the floor is torn, there is not enough light, there is no dishwasher, the ceiling is dark and low, the counter space is inadequate, there is only one electric outlet, the refrigerator is in the laundry room.  Why am I fat??   I just gave you a long list of possible reasons.   Do I enjoy being in my kitchen? No not at all.  Does my kitchen inspire me to prepare healthy meals?  No not at all.

The guy on Oprah today, didn't use the word Feng Shui, but he could have.  It's all the same thing, It's about creating an environment of positive energy. An environment that supports and comforts you.

I plan to spruce up my kitchen and turn it into a warm and inviting space.  I can probably handle that project on my own, but as I think about all of my cluttered "space" including the environment in which we work, I think I may need help getting it to a point where it is filled with positive energy.

Luckily, Kevin-Andrew  has come to Tarboro.  Kevin-Andrew is an interior decorator who specializes in organizing your home.  He'll be creating a living space for himself on the 3rd floor of our building and hopefully he'll be available for helpful advice on getting the mess in the building under control and thus allow more positive energy to flow through our businesses.

I spent all last week decluttering my house. My life DOES feel cluttered. And I am fat! Lots of times, I don't feel like tackling the clutter in the kitchen, so we go out to dinner instead. It makes a lot of sense! I feel alot better now that my kitchen is clutter-free, and I've even eaten better the past few days.
I've found that having a clear path throughout the house helps the energy flow, helps me to move without bumping into things, and even makes it easier to get up and moving in the morning. I suppose that is as Feng Shui as it gets.
